Music CDs/CassettesEdit

All music CDs and cassettes are stored in a metal filing cabinet on the ground floor near the Service Desk.

They are not classified using Dewey but instead use the publisher number given in the 028 field of the bibliographic record. Note that there is a space between the letters and the following numbers.
e.g. LCD 1013, KOCH 310272, JMCD 001, LOLA 001.

If there is no publisher number make one up using the first four letters from the main entry name in the bibliographic record, followed by the numbers 001. If there is more than one item by the same person then continue building the numerical sequence, i.e. 002, 003, 004...
e.g. STUR 001

Write the shelving sequence, bib. id and class number on the CD sleeve.

Multi-media packsEdit

TRC
If a pack or a book accompanied by a cd is assigned to TRC then treat as a PACK. These are then shelved together in the Teaching Resource Centre on the second floor in pamphlet boxes.
Use the following codes in the item record:

Shelf mark - sequence code TRC
Item type Loan
(Normal)
Format PK
(Pack)

Not TRC
If the pack is not assigned to TRC then:

  • Treat each part as a separate item and use the appropriate code. If one of the items is a book and the second is a cassette, then treat the first as a book and the second as a cassette. Use the codes given above to classify them as such.
  • Attach both items to the SAME bibliographic record.
  • Using the p-touch label machine print out either 'CD available' or 'Cassette available' and attach it to the top right hand corner of the front cover of the book.
